Two historical Black churches in Brooklyn, the Concord Baptist Church of Christ and Berean Missionary Baptist Church, have bonded to host an all-day conference for girls ages 10-21. The conference â€" entitled “Girl Power God's Way!”â€" was created to address some of the issues that are affecting girls today, such as violence, self-image and what the media projects, sexual activity; peer pressure and obesity. The conference will encourage and empower girls about the godly alternatives available for them, so they can make better choices for their lives. The conference will consist of workshops facilitated by dynamic women, and will also feature keynote speakers Min. Kernba Lucas of Daughters of Destiny international and evangelist Dawnique Daughtry of the House of the Lord Church. Special ministry presentations in dance will be presented from the Remnant Step Team and the Berean Ministry of Sacred Dance. The conference will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Berean Missionary Baptist Church, 1635 Bergen St., Brooklyn. It is open to girls from around the city, and it is encouraged that youth groups, organizations and advocates for girls bring their girls to the conference. Registration for the conference is $5.
