The honest truth about women from our lovely neighbor Screen GamesWhat's your opinion of online dating? MH recently ran a feature about it, but it was by a man. --RICH, VIA (APPROPRIATELY) E-MAIL
I'm surprised to say this, but online dating has finally lost its losers-only reputation. At least a dozen attractive, cool, successful women I know have warmed up to the idea of searching for a beau online. Kara, a brainiac babe who uses personals on nerve.com, says she likes knowing from the get-go what kind of relationship a guy wants. When you meet someone at a bar, you can't come right out and ask, "So, is your ultimate goal to hook up, date casually, or get serious?" Yet online that's standard profile content. I also think that because we now regularly do so many intimate things online--banking, buying underwear, chatting with friends--finding a date that way doesn't seem so outlandish. Damaged GoodsWhat do never-been-married women in their 20s think of divorced men? I'm 32 and dating again. --PERRY, FLAGSTAFF, AZ
In the merciless words of my friend Mackenzie, "A recently divorced guy is a no-no. He's on the rebound times 1,000." The problem is, you're not going to want another serious relationship anytime soon, and we know it. So unless we're specifically looking for a casual fling, you may as well have been recently paroled. But after a year or two, the stigma will wear off and you'll have that experienced-older-man mystique going for you. Hooded MenaceDo uncircumcised penises turn women off? --BRYANT, VT
Something like 65 percent of American men have been snipped as babes, so foreskins aren't something most women here think about until we happen to find one in a guy's pants. One friend whose ex-boyfriend's penis had a hood confessed to me that she didn't even notice he wasn't circumcised until she had already been sleeping with him for 2 months. When she finally noticed, she said it was "interesting and kind of exotic." Another friend who has never laid eyes or hands on a lance with a lid said she would be fascinated yet intimidated. "He'd have to show me what it does," were her exact words. So, I think that most American women are very curious and a little clueless, but not at all turned off. Fear HerselfWhat are women's biggest relationship fears? --SIMON, ARLINGTON, VA
Seeing an uncircumcised penis. Just kidding. We're afraid of being duped--of finding out that the man we've allowed ourselves to trust completely has lied or cheated or both. We're afraid of being left--suddenly and without reason. We're afraid we'll want to leave--suddenly and without reason. We're afraid we'll end up old maids. We're afraid we won't be fertile when we finally want to get pregnant. Most of all, we're afraid of becoming half of an old, boring couple that doesn't crack jokes, kiss, dance, or have sex anymore.
