Lancaster Group Tabs Laird to Boost Cool Water

New ads for Lancaster Group's Davidoff Cool Water fragrance will feature surfer Laird Hamilton as the face of the brand in the U.S. The print ad portrays Hamilton sprinting from the blue sea with his board in a manly splash and spray of ocean freshness. TV provides the dark volcanic rock and deep blue waves of Hawaii as the backdrop for a dive. Agency is Select, New York. A redesigned logo with block type replaces the script in previous ads; a new tagline, "The Power of Cool," and retail events support the brand re-launch.

New Orleans Seeking Sponsors for Mardi Gras

The Big Easy is seeking corporate sponsors for Mardi Gras--a first in the carnival's 150-year history. MediaBuys, Valley Village, Calif., has been charged with finding sponsors as well as supporters willing to fund a national ad campaign. TV and radio spots likely will feature actors and directors attending a MediaBuys sponsored pre-show cocktail party at the Critics Choice Awards encouraging viewers to attend Mardi Gras and help New Orleans tourism. Four $2 million sponsorships slots are available and can include exclusivity, placement in the ad campaign, sampling and signage at parade routes and other events.

Motorola and Google have announced a new alliance that will allow Motorola cell-phone users instant access to Google's search engine capabilities. Motorola will add a Google icon to the interface on select phones, so users can connect to the search engine at will. The new feature is expected to be available in Q1 of 2006 … Lee Jeans has selected Arnold Worldwide, based in New York, as its new creative agency of record, effective immediately. Arnold replaces Fallon, whose 19-year relationship with Lee ended this fall. The account is valued at $30 million.
