House Races President Bush attended a $5,000-a-plate fundraiser today in Virginia Beach, Va., for Rep. Thelma Drake, R-Va., who is facing a tight re-election race. But Drake stayed in Washington to vote on a FY07 Military Quality of Life appropriations bill. "Given a choice between attending a fundraiser and doing her job in support of the military she has to go with the military every time," Tim Murtaugh, Drake's campaign manager, told the Associated Press. In February, Vice President Cheney spoke at a dinner in Norfolk that raised more than $200,000 for Drake, who won the congressional seat in 2004 with 55 percent of the vote. She is being challenged by Philip Kellam, Virginia Beach's commissioner of revenue. Tonight, Bush is scheduled to attend a fundraiser for Rep. Geoffrey Davis, R-Ky., who is in a tight race against former Rep. Ken Lucas, a conservative Democrat. The Democratic Party is running $100,000 worth of radio ads on Christian and conservative stations in five media markets, including Cincinnati; Louisville and Lexington, Ky.; and Norfolk, Va. in the Fair Use guidelines of the 1976 U.S. Copyright Act. info [at] singlearticles.com Powered by CommonSense |
