COSMO GIRLS REV THEIR ENGINES

If Cosmopolitan were to run a story on the top sex spots outside of the boudoir, Volvos wouldn't make the cut. In a study conducted by the mag, less than half of women (39%) copped to having copulated in their cars.

When Cosmo heard that auto advertisers were having trouble targeting gals who reflect the mag's readership demo, it posed the Cosmo Auto Survey to young women who own or are in the market for cars in the next six months. Some findings:

• Traffic jammies: 75% of respondents say they have driven sans shoes or in their pajamas.

• Let's make a dealer less pushy: 47% of women said car lots should be less aggressive; 31% said cut the condescension.

• Psst! Pinto: Three out of four respondents (73%) get auto info from the Web, while two-thirds consult friends and family (66%).

• Driving force: Only a third (31%) said cost is the most influential factor when they shop for a car, but 73% said it's what drives their final purchase decision.

• Heat waiver: Air conditioning is the must-have feature for 96%. Runnersup: power locks/windows (87%), a sound system (78%), power adjustable seats.
