ETHIOPIA: UNICEF CAMPAIGNING TO GET MORE GIRLS IN SCHOOL.Navigation: Main page Author: Unknown Section: REPORTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD: AFRICA AND MIDDLE EAST
UN WIRE (Feb. 21, 2003): http://www.unfoundation.org "UNICEF has launched a campaign in Ethiopia to increase the number of girls enrolled in schools in five of the country's poorest regions. With 20 percent more boys attending school than girls, UNICEF's aim is to have the number of girls equal that of boys in attendance within three years... According to Integrated Regional Information Networks, UNICEF is developing strategies with the country's Education Ministry to boost girls' school enrollment and is organizing a workshop with educators to overcome obstacles such as early marriage and domestic work that prevent girls from attending school." EDITOR'S NOTE: While UNICEF - as usual - arranges meetings, attended by "experts" who talk to each other but do nothing- the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) when it was headed by a woman accomplished amazingly positive results by offering families extra food staples for sending their daughters to school. in the Fair Use guidelines of the 1976 U.S. Copyright Act. info [at] singlearticles.com Powered by CommonSense |
