FREESKIERS FLASH FLESH, GLACIER GIRLS, AND FULL-CONTACT FOOSBALL.Navigation: Main page Author: Unknown Section: VIBE
PRESSING (TRAM) HAM"People weren't very inebriated," insists pro freeskier Ingrid Backstrom, "but we all started mooning each other, and then flashing other body parts." While this may be normal behavior for uninhibited freeskiers, the flashing took place 300 feet off the deck in two suspended Snowbird trams. To kick off last year's U.S. Freeskiing Nationals, the resort outfitted each tram with disco balls and loaded them with athletes and their entourages. Just shy of the summit, speaker wires were strung between the two cars. "Thankfully, it was foggy inside, so you couldn't see between the two trams real well," says Backstrom. VELCRO AND SNOWTake teams of six, Velcro everybody to three 25-foot-long metal bars, add snow and a ball, and you've got...Human Foosball. The game started as a friendly, if ill-conceived, competition between guests and employees from New Hampshire resorts--Attitash/Bear Peak, Mt. Cranmore, King Pine, Loon Mountain, and Wildcat. Now, games are played at Attitash during February vacation weeks, mainly as a diversion for the kids. "Come here, Little Billy. Mommy wants to Velcro you to this pole." DOUBLE YOUR PLEASUREWin Fernie's Snow Dream raffle, (February 4, fernie.com), and your prize is a heli drop and day of resort skiing with the Kokanee Glacier Girls. Multiple sources insist that the Girls are bona fide rippers, but upon further investigation, we discovered there are actually two sets of Girls: the stunt doubles--like Tami Bradley, a Canadian-team freestyler and two-time Olympian--and the "actresses," pictured above. Rumor has it both sets will be at the event. CHARIOTS OF ICEHorses. Gambling. Chariots. Beer. Carnage. What's not to like? Every February, the Jackson Hole Shrine Club Cutter Races, held on a makeshift quarter-mile track south of town, pits teams of quarterhorses in a Ben Hur-style drag race. The crowd--some 5,000 strong--places bets and drinks beer. Last year, roughly $87,000 changed hands, with all proceeds going to charity. "The betting fluctuates year to year," says Teton County Sheriff Bob Zimmer, "depending on the crowd--and I guess the amount of beer." BEEN TO A PARTY? KNOW OF A PARTY?
