Hang in there stirkers until a little bit of money and a whole lot of dignity comes your way.Navigation: Main page Author: Tatum, Wilbert A.1 Section: Editorial
Before the Metropolitan Transportation Authority suggests that they have forced an end to the transit strike here in New York, and take credit for bringing some peace back to the souls of New Yorkers, let us just say that the MTA with Peter S. Kalikow as chairman, did as much as one could have possibly done with his near racist faux pas and unmitigated white arrogance to destroy whatever possibility that Roger Toussaint ever had of bringing negotiations to an amicable conclusion. Bringing this strike to any conclusion is worth it. The few pennies that it will cost each of us over time will well have been worth it, if that means that one of our most valuable human resources, our transit workers, are treated with dignity. Our hats are off to Mr. Toussaint and his colleagues with the hope that they hang in there as long as they are not required to return to work, if at all, with fewer real dollars and tortured egos.
