Soy's so-so effects A recent U.S. review of 200 studies suggests soy may not be worthy of its superfood status. White the review confirmed that soy reduces artery-clogging LDL cholesterol levels by a modest three per cent, proof of soy's other supposed health benefits -- such as towering the risk of cancer and kidney disease -- is insufficient. But don't toss out the tofu just yet. Investigators say better soy studies are needed. Baby weight Women who are obese (weighing more than 325 pounds) before becoming pregnant are more likely to deliver oversized babies with serious heart and breathing complications, according to research from Dalhousie University in Halifax. Mood killers While the onset of menopause can meddle with your sex life, other issues are more likely to ruin the mood of middle-aged women, suggests a U.S. study. After examining the sex rives of more than 3,100 women aged 42 to 52, researchers found that relationship problems and attitudes toward aging had a greater impact on sexual function than entering menopause.
