News from Oakmark, Vanguard

Vanguard plans to open the Diversified Equity fund--a fund of funds. It will invest in eight actively managed Vanguard offerings, including the MONEY 50's Windsor II, Mid-Cap Growth and Explorer. The adviser to The Oakmark Funds, Harris Associates, said it will stop paying brokers for research and other services via trading commissions. The use of so-called soft dollars is coming under increasing attack.
