Motorola Begins Auto Electronics Production in New China Plant

Motorola Inc. reported today that phase 1 production has begun in its $60 million automotive electronics facility in Tianjin, China.

The new facility will mainly manufacture automotive electronic accessories including engine control units, telematics, interior electronics and powertrain products, the company reported, and is to serve as one of Motorola's global production bases.

Motorola also said its business strategy for its automotive electronics business in China is to build a well-established automotive electronics production base there.

The facility is part of the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA), established in 1984, as one of the first state-level economic and technological development zones in the country.

Total investment in TEDA totals $870 million, with investors including Samsung Mobile Phone, Samsung Display, Rohm Electronics, Hyundai Electronics, Alps and Danaher.
