The following dates are the scheduled releases of the U.S. Labor Department's Producer Price Index and Consumer Price Index. The PPI measures changes in wholesale prices, or net revenues, collected by producers of goods and services. The CPI, or general inflation rate, measures changes in retail prices paid by consumers for goods and services, or gross revenues. Last year, the CPI, or general inflation, was 3.3%, up from 2.5% in 1995. However, medical inflation dipped to 3.0% last year from 3.9% in 1995. Retail price inflation for hospital services also dropped slightly to 4.1% last year from 4.6% in 1995. The PPI, meanwhile, rose 2.8% last year, compared with a 2.3% increase in 1998. The acute-care hospital component of the PPI inched up just 1.4% last year, compared with a 3.7% increase in 1995. Reference month Index Release date
