"An Adventure in Prosperity". (06 Jun 2006)
The article presents information about the GI Bill of Rights introduced in the U.S. in 1944. The ostensible purpose of this famous piece of legislation was to reward millions of World War II veterans for a job well done. Its underlying aim was to keep as many of those veterans as possible out of the job market for as long as possible, for nearly every economist was predicting renewed depression with the war's end. In January 1944 the GI Bill was introduced in the U.S. Congress, and veterans' groups such as the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars pushed it hard. Loans of up to $1,000 per veteran were to be available to help them buy or build housing or to begin or acquire a business.Full Text Word Count:1547Database: Academic Search Premie

"Don't Silence Navy Chat". (13 Jun 2006)
The article focuses on growing use of chat by the U.S. Navy operators and tacticians. Any initiative to standardize chat protocols and software must take into account needs and operating habits of Navy users. Chat is an excellent tool for coordination and information exchange. The fleet, carrier strike group and expeditionary strike group policies do not fully support the use of chat in lieu of tactical radio circuits. Most afloat staffs embark in fleet flagships, aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships. These ships typically enjoy high bandwidth for their Internet protocol systems.Full Text Word Count:809D

"Don't Silence Navy Chat"/"Fix Net Centric for theOperators". (13 Jun 2006)
Vague concepts about the network centric warfare are being swept aside by the reality of how individual programs and deck-plate initiatives are building the command-and-control architecture of the present. Before one talks about the glory of open military architecture and the limitless potential of Internet protocol, one needs to look at packet loss, utilization, certification and a bunch of technical issues that frankly are boring until they crash the network. There is a need to push forward with a wary eye towards what is possible and an optimistic sense of how command and control can be improved through better networks and information applications for warfare networks.Full Text Word Count:648D

"What Do Users Want?" (04 Jun 2006)
This article offers observation on the functions and purpose of online information resources to Internet users. Several recent studies of Internet users and that means regular users, not professional searchers found that some stereotypes of the proverbial end user no longer apply. According to one study from Pew Internet & American Life Project, three-quarters of Internet users search the Web for information on products and services. In fact, among people who have access to a high-speed Internet connection, over ten percent go to the Web daily to find do-it-yourself information. Interestingly, people with college degrees were more likely to look for how-to information than those with a high school degree or less.
