SNAPSHOTS: CAR STIPENDS UNDER REVIEW

The superintendent of schools in Dallas has proposed the elimination of nearly all district car stipends, after The Dallas Morning News found that the 160,000-student district spends nearly $3.7 million a year on such stipends for more than 2,300 employees. Superintendent Michael Hinojosa's proposal, announced Nov. 29, would take effect Sept. 1 and would limit the number of employees receiving the stipends to 53 central-office administrators, reducing the cost annually to $224,201.
