Sun, Fun and Books: Two Forida clubs dominate essay contest for chat with the author of "Upstate."Navigation: Main page Author: Dodson, Angela P. Section: books&clubs
Two Florida clubs dominate essay contest for chat with the author of Upstate. Two book clubs were chosen as winners of St. Martin's Press/BIBR Upstate contest. They are Woman2Woman of DeLand, Florida, www.woman2woman.4t.com, and Nubian Circle of Orlando/Central Florida, http://Nubiancirclebookclub.tripod.com. We asked book clubs to submit a type-written essay of no more than 350 words, answering the following questions: Were you surprised by the ending in the book Upstate? If so, in what way? Would you have changed the outcome or did you feel it was true to the story? Read the winning essays and contest rules on www. bibookreview.com and look for articles about these clubs in a future issue. The winners receive: a live phone chat (by conference call) for their book club with the author, Kalisha Buckhanon; a gift basket containing books from St. Martin's Press; a year's subscription to BIBR for all members of the book club; and a disposable camera [to record the group's meeting discussion with Kalisha]. Log onto www.bibookreview.com for details of future contests and tell us about your club, if you would like to see your group profiled on this page, you may also e-mail Pat Houser, the regular contributing editor for the Books & Clubs page, at pathouser@aol.com; and please visit with us at the National Book Club Conference in Atlanta, http://nationalbookclubconference.com, August 5-7, 2005.
