Land Rover North America has moved to a new 60,000-sq. ft. headquarters building in Lanham, MD. It will house 175 employees. Land Rover University will be building a 15,000-sq. ft. building which will be adjacent to a 22-acre off-road training site. The new headquarters properties are an investment of more than $10 million.

Quaker State has inked an agreement with United Auto to supply the group with motor oil for its 37 new car dealerships and eight stand-alone United AutoMart used vehicle facilities. This will also include servicing United Auto's new Fast Lube facilities. United Auto had revenues of $1.2 billion for the nine months ended Sept. 30, 1996. Last year the company sold 41,500 new vehicles and 23,700 used vehicles.

Ford Motor Company has chosen Durakon, a maker of bedliners, to be the dealer-installed accessory offered by the Ford Customer Service Division. Durakon is also the exclusive supplier to Nissan and Mazda and is a major supplier to General Motors.

Cooper Automotive donated about $20,000 worth of automotive products and teaching aids to the automotive training program at Whitmer High School in Toledo, OH. It was part of the company's support of the auto repair industry. It was the second donation, with the first going to Ranken Technical College of St. Louis last year.

The donation included 3,000 spark plugs, 2,000 wiper blades and more than 300 headlamps, 1,000 light capsules, 150 spark plug wire sets, 500 battery cables and fuel system tune-up kits.

The luxury tax on automobiles is being phased out over a seven year period. It dropped from nine percent last year to eight in 1997. The tax applies to that portion of a motor vehicle's sale price which exceeds $36,000.
