The National Center for State Courts recently inducted Michael L. Buenger, state court administrator for the Supreme Court of Missouri, into the Warren E. Burger Society. The Burger Society honors individuals who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to improving the administration of justice through extraordinary contributions of service and support to the NCSC. Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts and Indiana Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard, chair of NCSC's board of directors and president of the Conference of Chief Justices, inducted Buenger and other new members into the Burger Society October 28 at the NCSC's annual recognition luncheon in Washington, D.C. Buenger served on the NCSC's board of directors, completing his term July 2005. While on the board, he served with distinction as the vice-chair and chair of the board's finance committee. With his encouragement, NCSC engaged major corporate sponsorship for the national Court Technology Conference in 2003. Buenger's ongoing work with a group of Missouri general counsels who meet with the state's judicial leaders to support fair and impartial courts complements the NCSC's national efforts in this area. The NCSC, founded in 1971 by the Conference of Chief Justices and Chief Justice of the United States Warren E. Burger, is a nonprofit court reform organization dedicated to improving the administration of justice by providing leadership and service to the state courts provides education, training, technology management, and research services to the nation's state courts.
